Professional Activities

Since 2002, I am working for BMW Group in Munich, Germany, as an IT project manager. Currently, I am a member of the Competence Center for IT Architectures with a focus on IT enterprise architecture management. Furthermore, I plan and develop backend IT systems for telematics, and the car electric/electronic domain. Before 2002, I worked in various IT positions in Germany and the United States. This also included ventures in India and South America.

Academics and Research

I received a Computer Science degree from the Chemnitz University of Technology in Germany. Furthermore, I was rewarded a US Fulbright Scholarship and received a Master of Science degree at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia under the supervision of Susan Davidson, USA.

The main focus of my research activities was in database query languages, data modelling and XML. In collaboration with Dan Suciu, I developed one of the first open-source, widely used XML compressors called XMill. I published several conference papers and gave talks at numerous professional and academic institutions in the United States, Asia, and Europe. You can find my (slightly out-of-date) list of publications and talks here.

Travelling

In my spare time, I like travelling and mountain hiking. Here ist a selection of pictures taken between 2002 and 2006 (moving the mouse pointer onto the picture shows a brief description of the photo shot):
